A serving tray with handles makes it much easier to transport food and drink from the kitchen or bar to your guests with a minimum of spillage and general ease of use. There are many who prefer flat trays with no handles and no ridge, preferring the easy access to and from the resting surface for the purpose of picking up and dropping off plates and glasses. However, not all of us were blessed with a fine sense of balance and what may work for petite cocktail lounge waitresses may not do when you're trying to feed a party of eight.

For example, if you are mostly serving drinks by the pool, something light and colorful is likely your best bet. On the other hand, if you need something for your wait staff to carry for a five course meal in a formal dining room, you can't go wrong with silver, provided it is clean and well polished.
