Serving Platters - Find a Serving Platter
There are many types of serving platters on the market today. Before investing in one, it makes sense to educate oneself on the choices available. Oftentimes, it behooves one to consider the average size of the party which is being entertained. Larger numbers of guests may well mean a larger tray, but if there are many visitors than a collection of several, smaller platters may make the most sense. From a practical sense, it also is worth considering whether one will be dining inside or out. For summer pool parties, a plastic or wooden serving platter may be all you need.
Formal dinner parties require a nicer touch, often frosted glass, or a form of porcelain. Silver serving platters offer an even more elegant touch, but be sure to give them a quick polish a couple of days prior to entertaining. Glass has the advantage of being easier to clean, but of course one false step and you'll be cleaning shards off the floor, so be careful! Many glass serving platters also come with handles to make transport easier.
Speaking of handles, they are largely a matter of choice when it comes to serving platters, but they do make things decidedly more convenient. Some serving platters, rather than including appendages made for carrying, rotate in a lazy susan style which can provide its own set of advantages, but also possibly make cleaning more difficult. Consider as well which foods you plan on serving, and get a more sturdy platter for foods which will need to be cut or carry more weight. Look for one with a lip around the edge to ensure everything stays in its proper place and does not slide off the edge. The more consideration you give to these options, the greater likelihood you will be pleased with your final purchase.
